Personal Stuff About Me

I'm a , wife, mom, and grandmother, who happens to also be disabled.  But most important, I am a born-again Christian.  I'm married to a wonderful husband who is my best friend !  We have 5 grown children (all married) and 6 grandchildren.  The youngest was born September 2003.  To see some pictures of my grandchildren, you can visit my "Grammy's Brag Book" web site.

My Passions & My Causes

One aspect of my life that has become quite important to me is prayer.   I truly love to worship God and recently have set a goal to pray each night and each morning Creative Ladie's Prayer Warriorfor my friends and family.

I have also made a commitment to be a "Prayer Warrior" for students and teachers.  When I came across the "Creative Ladies Ministry" and saw the graphic for the prayer warriors.  I knew that was for me!

When I started the Chronic Pain Support Group, I had no idea how many people there are who live daily in chronic pain.  In November of 2003, I decided there needed to be a way to raise the awareness of Chronic Pain. So I went in search of a Chronic Pain Awareness Ribbon.  There was none to be found.  So I created one.  The colors are yellow and Green.  These colors have a special meaning, yellow was selected to symbolize the hope we have to overcome the depression that follows chronic pain.  Yellow is the color of the "Suicide Survivor Awareness Ribbon."  Green was selected because it is a color I associate with my pain leaving my body.

If you live in chronic pain or have a family member who does, please save a copy of our graphic Chronic Pain Awareness Ribbon to your computer.  Then you can use it in your eMails, message posts, and display it on your website.  The only requirement is that you link the graphic back to http://ChronicPainSupport.org/services.html

Being Disabled Isn't Who I Am

sign_handicap_1.gifI  believe that I am not a disabled person.  I'm just a person with one descriptive attribute being that I am disabled.  Just like I have an attribute of blue eyes.   It's a very difficult concept for me to convey.  I did try to capture the idea in one of my digital art pieces.  To the right is a small version of it (click on the image to see the full size).   I created it for a challenge graphics group I belong to.  In challenge group, each week we are given an idea and members of the group turn the idea into a piece of art. The assignment for this piece was to show who we really are.  It is probably the toughest challenge I've participated in.   I'm still not sure if I captured my feelings about who I am, but I did try.  If you're interested in seeing my on-line graphic art gallery where I upload my larger pieces to be purchased as posters and prints. It has a whole different set of graphic art than what's in my gallery here on this site.

Before being disabled in 1998, I was Assistant Director of Technology for a financial firm.   I loved the work I did and my co-workers were like family.  God willing, I'll return to work some day.  Until then I use the knowledge I gained from my job to create web sites and working to improve my graphic art skills.  It takes me much longer because I don't have the stamina I once did , nor am I able to focus as I should, but it's a great distraction and using my knowledge this way keeps my brain functioning.  I'd be lost without having something to keep me busy.

I've written a little about the conditions that caused me to become disabled (Lupus & Avascular Necrosis) and placed it on my Chronic Pain Support Group's web site.  If you're interested in reading about these conditions and how they've impacted my life, click here.

My Interests

    bus_red01.gifCamping the RV Way

When the kids were young we bought our first moterhome and that was the best way to camp (as far as I was concerned).  With the moterhome we could take off on short weekend trips in a moment's notice.  We all loved it!  When the youngest started college and I'd become disabled, we sold our home and traveled for three years in our moterhome.  It was wonderful!! During that time I had two major surgeries and recooperated in the moterhome.  I think because of the small confined space it made it easier for me to get around.  There was always something for me to hold on to.  And if we hadn't had the moterhome, I wouldn't have been able to travel at all.

We settled down in December of 2002 and bought a "fixed home".  We still have the moterhome and hope to take some short trips soon.

     notebook04.gifAddicted to the WWW

I became a 'web surfer' in the summer of 1998 after I was disabled.  I quickly became addicted to chatting and surfing the 'net.   Soon I was building web pages. The first web site I deigned was all about Chronic Pain.  I chose this topic because it's something I battle daily.   I also started creating graphics. Then I took a giant leap and set up an E-card site.  What a blast!  The site went up in the spring of 2000 and now it has approximately 600 eCards.

desk_brown.gifYou can never have too many craft projects!

In the past few years, I've gotten back in touch with my creative side.  I've always loved to crochet, but now I'll try just about any craft.  Currently my crafts include: creating digital art, chrochet, counted cross stitch, quilting, and memory albums. Also, I'm trying to leran how to knit.

SierraHere are some pictures of recent projects I've completed.  To the right is a combination of two of my crafts, digital art and crochet.  This is a small version, just click on the image to see the full size.  It's a digital painting of my granddaughter in a sweater and hat I crocheted for her.

On the left is the same granddaughter wearing an outfit I made for her 1st birthday.  It's a little sundress with ruffled panties.  Throughout the day I took pictures when she bent over so we would be sure to catch a shot of those ruffles. If you click on the photo, you'll be taken to a larger picture of Sierra with her Mommy (Daddy's in the background).  You 'll be able to see the outfit much better.

SweaterOn the right is a cowboy sweater I made for our grandson, Logan, that lives in Colorado.  He's a little darling too! I made this for his 1st birthday which he shares with Sierra.  Our little "twin cousins".  The sweater is the top half of a sweater set. You might not be able to see it well in this photo, but there is fringe all around the yoke and gives it a western look.  I'm hoping he'll get a lot of use out of this outfit in Colorado.

I started crocheting about 29 years ago, but didn't start making sweaters until Spring of 2002.  I'm sorry I didn't start making them sooner, then all the grandkids would have gotten sweaters when they were babies.   I was taught by a wonderful woman, my mother-in-law.  Now I'm teaching a daughter-in-law how to crochet as well as my oldest granddaughter.  I think crocheting is a wonderful craft. If you don't know how, there are some wonderful "how to" books and CDs that will help you learn.
